Tell us a little bit about yourself and your brand.
Hi! I’m Amina. Originally from Chicago and been in Boston for 5 years now. I’m currently based out of the north suburbs of Boston. I make coasters and trays out of resin.
What inspired you to start your brand or craft?
I’ve had the material to make resin coasters for some time but had always been afraid of trying it out. I had a lot of free time during quarantine earlier this year and decided to go for it. I loved that I could come up with any color and design combo on my own and it would come to life in this creation.
What does an average day look like?
Making coasters is not my full time job (unfortunately) Ha! I work as a financial analyst for a tech company here in Boston and get creative with resin in the evenings and weekends.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
The fact that the designs are limitless and that there is a little bit of science behind how resin works.
When you’re creating do you have a person in mind?
No, not a person. I usually have a visual of what I want my piece to look like and try my best to create it.
When was your business founded and how has it evolved over time?
I started selling my pieces in July of 2020. I started off randomly picking and choosing colors to experiment with and to see how different brands of resin would react. I’ve now honed it down to knowing which brands I like, how much ‘working time’ I have and more specific ideas of what I want the end product to look like.
Are there any challenges that you’ve had to overcome?
Quite a few! Resin is a messy medium to be working with. I don’t have a dedicated workspace and was using the dining table until I dropped resin on to the table and chair! Everything is now covered with plastic and I’ve figured out how to properly ventilate the space. Next challenge is figuring out how to store and organize my ever growing supplies!
What is one piece of advice you have for a female entrepreneur just starting out?
Don’t give up! And use all your resources
